Ready for Takeoff?

Well, the job has finally ended after almost 50 years of doing what I love, engineering and building a variety of products for many different customers and situations.  Now, whatever I do like that will be for my own enjoyment. Right now, I have several projects in mind to improve or update the RV.  We leave central Texas in a couple of weeks to start a life as, I guess, nomads in a modern version of a covered wagon.  I have to admit that it is a lot more comfortable and luxurious than any covered wagon, but the principle is the same.

At the moment, we are in a small KOA campground north of Austin where we will be preparing to hit the road.  Our scheduled start is August 14 with the first major stop being in Iowa where my wife is originally from.  We will be there until early September when we move on to the rest of our first major trip as retirees.  We will swing through the midwest on our way eastward.  We plan on attending our first RV rally (this one with FMCA), that we know nothing about.  We’ve been to lots of meetings and functions over the years, but aren’t sure about what this one entails.  It’s several days at the West Virginia State Fairgrounds before we continue on to my hometown, and then to see some other relatives on the east coast.

We’re really looking forward to seeing family and being able to spend time with them, more than we have on an extended basis in a long time.  At the same time, it is going to be a change to be retired.  There a great many things that are changing from income to insurance to dealing with all new kinds of different issues, but that is life.  It changes things.
