Are we There Yet?
I’m the one asking that today, not my (grown) kids. But it’s not about a physical destination – we’re already home. But we are deep into the down sizing process. We’ve moved a seeming mountain of boxes to storage, and took the dining room set over yesterday. We aren’t keeping it, but our youngest wants to take it with her when she finishes school the end of June and moves on to full time adult life. So (this is mid-March) we put it in storage so that it is out of the house and ready to go on a truck when she is ready.
No, we’re dealing with 42 years of married life and 20 gazillion little odds and ends that have collected. We’re deciding what to keep and what to throw. Any one decision wouldn’t be too bad, but there is one after another after another after . . . Well, you get the idea.
Don’t get me wrong, we’re both excited (well, at least I am) about this new adventure we’re embarking on (living in about 350 square feet of mobile space) but that’s about 10% of what we occupy now between the house and the garage. The big stuff seems to be easy (an estate sale to move it all out quickly), but man the little stuff is driving me crazy. Maybe we should just get a big dumpster and not even try make a rational decision. Just dump it and get it over with.
Three more days and, by definition, it all has to be over. What’s the number of that dumpster company again?
