Am I Crazy?
THAT is the question for the day! We’re now just about a month away from doing an estate sale, and only two weeks away from having to turn the house over to the estate sale company to get it set up for the sale. I think we’re running out of time, and certainly energy, to keep up with everything we still have to do. But, we’re commited to the process at this point.
We’ve been interviewing real estate agents and have had the good fortune to have a tough decision on which one to chose. We started with recommendations for good agents from associates and then interviewed them to see which we thought was the best match. We’ve made that decision and have started the process to list the house, although it won’t officially go on the market until after the estate sale.
As the saying goes, “your mileage may vary”, but we’ve elected to empty the house first and then list it. We considered the other way ’round, but felt the pressure to get an estate sale done with the pressure of the closing date might not be the best or easiest way to go. Around here, the good sale companies are booked up as much as two to three months out, so it would be very hard to get a date that lined up with a closing date if we sell the house first. So we’ll be effectively out of the house with it empty before it actually goes up for sale. That means we will be starting “full timing” out behind the house while it is being sold.
I’d previously had electrical outlets installed for a full 50 Amp. service for visitors to our place, so I can fully power the RV. I did have to get 100 ft. of water hose yesterday to connect to the nearest water bib, but that is done and so now the RV is fully operational. To solve the waste water problem, I bought a macerator pump that claims to pump up to 100 ft through a 3/4 inch garden hose. Since we will still have access to the house while it is selling, we’ll be able to use the facilities in it so that should reduce the load on the RV. I haven’t used this as yet so I can’t comment on how well it works, but I’ll do a review of the product once I have some actual experience.
