Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum

Made it to Ok city and found a great campground near the museum.  We highly recommend Twin Fountains RV Resort in Oklahoma City.  Very well maintained, friendly staff, and nice camp sites.  Only issue we found is an 11 AM checkout time.  Since we arrived around 5 PM that doesn’t leave enough time to see the museum we stopped to see.  Since we are flexible, we just extended the stay by a day to do what we wanted in this town.  That’s the beauty of no schedule except our own.  It’s a wonderful feeling of freedom to be able to do that.  Golly, that’s cool!

The museum is pretty great.  We stayed until we tired ourselves out and didn’t take it all in.  Some interesting side notes:  John Wayne left (at least part of) his personal collection to the museum.  I loved seeing the collection of old firearms and reading some the history of the firearms industry in this country.  I also found out that a native Oklahoman, Ben Johnson, was the only person to ever win both a National Rodeo Championship AND an Oscar.  If you watched John Wayne movies, you would recognize Ben.  Never knew that about him, but it was an interesting find.

Anyway, it’s a really nice museum, very well done.  I highly recommend it if you are in the Oklahoma City area, go see it.  We’ll be back on another trip.
